Leithen Rovers AFC were denied Border Cup victory in the cruellest of fashions at the W. S. Happer memorial Park, Greenlaw, on Saturday.

After leading 1-0 for most of the game, Darren Pryde having slotted away a penalty on 20 minutes, Paul Graham’s men were hit by blow number one when opponents West Barns Star levelled in the fifth minute of injury time.

Another spell of stalemate in the dull, drizzly conditions resulted in the match going to penalties, which the East Lothian outfit managed to win by a narrow margin.

Final score: West Barns 5 Leithen Rovers 4.
