Around the grounds

Football clubs across the Borders are now well into their pre-season schedule.

Selkirk have signed several new faces, including former Gala Fairydean and Coldstream striker Jack Hay, Michael Colin and Fraser Neave, while retaining players such as Garry O’Connor and Ouzy See.

In their first match against Heaton Stannington, they earned a 3-3 draw – O’Connor and Ouzy See (2) getting the goals.

On Saturday, they lost 3-1 at home to Lothian Thistle HV, with See again finding the net, and on Tuesday, See opened the scoring against Coldstream before Ashley Langford’s double gave the Streamers a 2-1 win.

Selkirk face Thorn Athletic at Yarrow Park on Saturday.

Gala Fairydean Rovers brushed off the cobwebs last Saturday as they hosted Cowdenbeath’s first match under Colin Nish, with the Fairies falling to a 5-0 defeat.

While scorelines are not that important pre-season, they’ll be looking for a better result at home on Saturday against a Berwick Rangers XI.

Also on Saturday, Hawick Royal Albert, under new manager Mike Atai, kick off their pre-season with a home match against Preston Athletic.
