Ancrum’s secure Wright Cup semi spot

Ancrum 3 Gala Hotspur 3 (After extra time, Ancrum win 5-3 on penalties)

WRIGHT CUP QUARTER FINALS

ANCRUM made it into the semi-finals of the Wright Cup with a dramatic penalty shoot out win at Galashiels.

Daniel Gillie put the visitors ahead early on after poor defending from Spurs, and Grant Robinson added a second.

But Gala fought back well and Sean Pringle scored a fine goal before half time.

A Stuart Spence penalty made it 3-1 but Gala came back again as Mark Curran tapped in Lee Brown’s free kick.

And with ten minutes to go, defender Ian Chalmers fired the ball into the top corner to take the match to extra time.

No further goals were added so the tie went to penalties, with Robert Young, Brown and Michael Blackwood scoring for Gala, only for Bruce Barron’s effort to be saved.
