A FOOTBALL-MAD teenager from Ancrum has won his team a brand new sponsored kit in a nationwide competition.

Thirteen-year-old Ross McKenzie explained in a poem that Ancrum Juniors Under-15s needed new tops, but the club were unable to afford them as they had to buy a new lawn mower for their Bridgend Park pitch.

Scottish cloud computing company iomart Hosting, who ran the Host Your Kit contest, decided Ross’ entry was the best and as a result he and his team-mates are now kitted out in new adidas strips.

Ross said: “I love playing for Ancrum, but we’ve been wearing the same old football strip for the last five years.

“When we heard about Host Your Kit it sounded like a great chance to get new strips so I thought I’d do something different to try to win. I still can’t believe that my poem won. The new adidas kit is absolutely fantastic.”

Ancrum Juniors chairman John Parker, also Ross’ grandfather, added: “The new kit will give our Under-15s that extra bit of pride when they step onto the pitch this season.

“We also hope it will encourage many more teenage boys to come along and join our club.”
