Newtown 1

Hawick Legion 1

BAL DIVISION A

On a heavy, muddy park, both sides had their moments in this bottom-of-the-table clash.

Newtown were kept at bay by a string of fine saves from Hawick keeper Michael White, while Legion squandered several good scoring opportunities, and it ended up all-square.

Legion broke the deadlock in the first half when Jory Robertson skipped past two defenders to set up William Monteith’s spot-on finish. After new Legion signing Peter Gellaitry from Hawick Royal Albert had a header brilliantly saved by the Newtown goalkeeper, John Shankie missed twice for the visitors.

In the second period, Newtown equalised when Matty Scott’s free kick found the back of the Legion net. Newtown had their tails up, but there was no more scoring.
