Bullets shoot themselves in the foot with poor start
Border Bullets 52
Heriot-Watt University 54
LBA DIVISION TWO
KEEN to end their recent losing streak, the Bullets met Heriot Watt University last Friday.
John Hood started off lively enough with darting drives inside to secure the points. However, a lack of effort and communication on defence left the Bullets down by eight at the end of the first quarter.
The defence continued to struggle in the second period, where the students took full advantage and stormed the Borders by double their points.
Only Vytas Sidlauskas, who managed to secure a couple of points inside, and Ben Billet, who drained a deep three-pointer, were able to score for the Bullets in this quarter. After a re-grouping at half-time the Borders picked up the pace, with Stewart Thomson scoring inside and Stephane Paret securing on powerful drives. As the defence improved, they got a lot of steals to fuel the offence, convincingly winning this quarter 18-9.
They sustained this high standard into the fourth period with Craig White heating up from outside. With seconds to go, the Borders were down by five, then White managed to break free to drain the three pointer.
However, Heriot Watt held the ball up tightly, not letting anything slip until the final whistle.
Nex week, the Bullets play Dunfermline Steel, who sit second in the league.
