FOLLOWING the fireworks of their explosive meeting last weekend, Vale of Leithen and Gala Fairydean will be looking for quieter times this Saturday, writes John Slorance.
Vale are at home to Leith Athletic in an East of Scotland First Division encounter, and assistant manager Lyndsay Rathie told TheSouthern: "The Gala game is now in the past, and we will just have to get our heads around it and get back on track.

"
I don't know much about Leith, but I expect they will fancy their chances after having seen our last two league results.

"We have the players to do something this season. It's getting them all together that is the problem.

"There is a squad of 19, but for various reasons we have only been able to put out 13 or 14 guys for our opening games."

Vale's problems continue for Saturday as they have Raymond Fleming and Chris Graham suspended, and Robbie Clark unavailable.

Fairydean take on Craigroyston at Netherdale and Gala co-manager Bryan Templeton said: "Although they got beat by Gretna last week, Craigroyston appear to be a very good side as they enjoyed a big win over Vale of Leithen.

"Word has it that teams like Craigroyston and others have been paying out big money to players to get themselves out of the First Division.

"We can't compete financially with this, but hope to do just that with the boys we have got."

Fairydean are without Shane Greene, but parade New Zealander Rhys Gilchrist for the first time.

Glancing ahead to his side's away clash with Eyemouth United, Kelso United manager Jim McLean said: "Although we beat Hawick last week we will have to raise our game to do the same against Eyemouth.

"It will be a different kind of game completely, and I am expecting it to be a really hard one."

The Tweedsiders welcome back Paul Young.

Searching for their first win of the season – and their first goal – Hawick Royal Albert entertain Tynecastle at Albert Park. Albert have Kenny Adams back from suspension, while Michael McKenzie is no longer with the side.

In the Premier Division, Selkirk line up against Spartans at Yarrow Park. Speaking of this clash, Selkirk assistant manager Davie Main said: "It's been a good start to the season for us, but we are under no illusions.

"There a lot of good sides in the Premier Division, and Spartans are one of them, and if we can get something out of the match it will be a bonus.

"We managed a good win at Easthouses, and that has given us confidence."

Having missed out on the Easthouses game, Euan Pritchard is in the Souters' pool this time around. Ian Potts, however, is out, while Tony Craggs is battling to be free from an injury.

Peebles are involved in cup action, facing Heriot-Watt University in the first round of the Alex Jack Cup at home.

It's another hard assignment for the Whitestone Park men, and no-one knows this more than Peebles manager Gary French, who said: "We knew before the season started that basically we were going to be the whipping boys.

"That's the way the situation is and we are just having to get on with it.

"We need to be positive and keep battling on.
