A FEW surprises were recorded in the latest round of results in the Fjordhus (Construction) Ltd Winter League singles and pairs ties.
None more so than last year’s runners-up, John Manczak’s team of himself and Jack Hardie, going down 11-7 to Jimmy Grieve’s duo of Andy Waddell and Kenny Syme.

Next up was a thrilling singles between brothers Craig and Callum Riddell.

The game
was all square with 13 of the 15 ends played, before team captain Craig wrapped up the points with a single followed by a three at the last end.

Craig Riddell’s pair of Craig Macdonald and Scott Thomson then completed the double with a convincing win over John and Collin Ballantyne.

The singles tie between Grieve and Tom Boyd was postponed until this week.

The following evening saw Tom Mann Jnr, of Colin Hancock’s team, defeat Craig Turnbull of Ian Macdonald’s team 17-9.

However, Macdonald and Vic Graham had a surprisingly easy 10-3 victory over Hancock and son Ecky.

The last two games of the week saw Jim Gilchrist’s team taking full points from Jimmy Fenton’s squad.

Fenton went down to Brian Anderson in the singles by 17-6 while the pair of Gilchrist and Tom Mann Snr defeated Gordon Wilson and Jock Hunter 12-6.

Wilton Bowling Club will be the visitors to the Abbotsford carpet this Friday with the first filling starting at 7pm.

There was a large turnout on Saturday evening for the club’s sponsors/race night.

Both winners and losers thoroughly enjoyed the evening and thanks were expressed to all who played a part in making the evening a success.
