SELKIRK'S young guns stood firm on Saturday and recorded an unexpected victory in their first Premier Division encounter.

It may not have been pretty football, but the league table shows that the Souters have three points – and that is what coun
ts.

The visiting Borderers went ahead in the ninth minute as Michael Romanes thumped the ball into the net from a Darren Munro cross.

Then it was backs to the wall for the Borderers as Lily threw attack after attack at their goal.

They even had the ball in the net at one stage, but the goal was chalked off due to an earlier offence, much to the relief of the Yarrow Park men.

Easthouses simply didn't take any of their chances in front of goal, although it is fair to say that their task was not made easy thanks to an on-form John Dodds in the Selkirk goal.

The Souters had a chance to add to their tally as Craig Evenden was fouled by Craig Stupert in the box, but Romanes' spot-kick was saved by Gavin McLean.

And in a finish that must have pleased boss Paul Brownlee, Selkirk held firm in the face of a late flurry of attacks.
