Eyemouth United 0
EoS Division One
Kenny Paterson reports from Netherdale
THE only goal of this game just about summed up the whole 90 minutes of this scrappy derby.
It came in the 32nd minute when a long ball found Eyemouth goalkeeper S
cott Dowie attempting to retrieve the ball on the edge of his penalty box.
However, the stopper was nowhere near it, allowing Grant Gass to scuff a shot into the bottom left-hand corner.
It was not pretty, but was enough for Gala to avenge their defeat at Eyemouth earlier in the season.
The home side had started the game in the ascendancy, and within five minutes a great shot by Des Sutherland was brilliantly tipped away. James Wilson was then denied by trialist goalkeeper Steven King before Gass took his chance to give Gala the lead.
The visitors responded when David Aitchison was played through six minutes before the break, but King dived quickly to block his near-post effort.
Gala tried to put the game beyond Eyemouth at the start of the second half and Dowie had to be on his toes to save a shot from Jamie Gibson, while Eyemouth continued to look for the equaliser, with Sword unlucky to see his shot tipped round the post by King and substitute Lewis Walker’s lob nearly deceiving the trialist keeper in the closing minutes.
