AFTER the storms of the previous shoot, competitors were treated to more wintry weather with the first of the season's snow affecting the Junior Shield competition on Sunday.
After morning inspection, the high tower was judged to be too dangerous as the wind threatened to push the target over and down onto the footpaths and other stands.

The field section was also omitted, entirely to avoid mass hypothermia.
Even the relatively-sheltered valley section of the ground saw the gusts play mischievously with the clays, keeping average scores below normal.

Highest junior, winning the Junior Shield for the first time, was Robin Malone of Melrose, whose 29 matched fourth position in the senior competition.

Sean Allison (Hawick) won the runner-up cup with a 23 and Struan Brodie (Denholm) stepped up in third place on 21.

The next shoot at the Midlem ground is on Sunday, April 1, when the end-of-winter shoot-off and draw will take place.
