A STRONG group of local runners travelled south to the JK Orienteering Festival in Sussex over the Easter weekend.
Unseasonal weather with gale-force winds and hail on the Saturday, and snow on the Sunday, must have suited the Scots who produced several medal-winning performances in Britain's major event for 2008.

Edinburgh University student Douglas Tullie won the gold medal in the sprint event at Guildford on Friday, with Jedburgh schoolgirl Kirstin Maxwell taking bronze.

Douglas followed up with silver medals on days two and three in the middle and long-distance events, with father John from Teviothead going one better by winning his category on both days.

The Maxwell family also had a successful weekend with Kirstin, Eileen and Ian all finishing in top-10 positions in the main event.
