ETTRICK Forest Archers inaugural Open Clout Shoot on Sunday was most definitely a success.
Held at Thirladean, Philiphaugh, Selkirk, the event saw archers from The Eden Company of Archers, Carlisle, and Green Hollow Bowmen, based near Glasgow, visit the Borders for the first time.
First arrows were shot at 11am and it wasn’t long before the archers were getting their eye in.
Although cool, the weather remained dry for the day’s shooting and a welcome break at lunchtime for picnic lunches allowed club members to chat to their guests before heading back to shoot the second round.
As usual, the wind played a big part in how many arrows landed in the scoring circles, a challenge to all the archers, but several clouts were scored.
With all arrows away, scores were tallied up while the best end shoot-off took place and the archers discussed how they had performed.
The club thanked their Lady Paramount for the day, Lady Strang Steel, who kindly presented the winners with their medals.
Connor Janiak, youngest member of Ettrick Forest Archers, presented Lady Strang Steel with a bouquet of flowers to end the tournament, which the club hopes will lead to more open events in the future.
Thanks must also be given to all the club members who turned out early on the Sunday morning to set out the field.
