A SQUAD of primary school children represented the region in a national event recently and returned triumphant.
Kingsland Primary School in Peebles sent eight teams to the Scottish Primary Schools Road Relay at Grangemouth. It was the first time the school had been to the competition, so all was new, however, all runners acquitted themselves very well with two
notable successes.

The boys’ P7 A team of Ryan Houten, David Collins and Kobe Stevens came second out of 38 teams and each received silver medals after being narrowly beaten by St Ninian’s, Stirling.

And adding to the school’s success, the boys’ P6 A team took the bronze medal in their race. The lads – Colin Kaljee, Euan Magowan and Lewis Austen-Marshall – had been in the lead on their last lap, only to be overtaken by George Watson’s and Balmuildy. What’s more, Kingsland was the only school to come up to the podium twice that day and all eight teams were very proud.

Other results: boys’ P7 B (Mitchell Winyard, Dillon Rice, Ross Paterson) 14th; boys’ P6 B (James Carvalho, Andrew Gillie, Sean Cooke) eigth; girls’ P7 A (Christie Bone, Katie McNaughton, Rebecca Sterricks) 21st; girls’ P7 B (Ishbel Russell, Amanda Sinclair, Shevaun Smith) 32nd; girls’ P6 B (Millie Hanlon-Cole, Lesley Walker, Robyn Troup) 16th; and girls’ P6 A (Alice McBride, Georgia Wallace, Abbie Archibald) 17th.

All the teams displayed excellent sportsmanship and were good ambassadors for Kingsland and the Borders.

It was a great day out with plenty of support from parents and friends.
