Selkirk go head to head with Premier Two leaders West of Scotland on Saturday in what may prove to be the match of the season, writes Mark Inchley.
But while a win for the Glasgow side would seal the title, Selkirk's fate hangs in the balance ahead of their crucial league decider with Biggar the following week, which is why any celebrations at Philiphaugh will be kept on ice.

"Saturday's matc
h is not a decider for us, but it is for West," Selkirk coach Rodney Pow told TheSouthern this week. "Nothing can be won or lost in this match.

"We're relishing it to be honest. We've played a lot of rugby this season to get to this position and now the boys are really looking forward to it."

The game comes just one week after Selkirk crashed out of the cup at the hands of Haddington in a shock defeat at Neilson Park, but, says Pow, the loss has spurred his players on.

"We were disappointed, obviously, but we were without five of our first team backs and we're still in four competitions.

"You could say we lost focus, but really they were just better than us on the day.

"We should be back to full strength this weekend. It's not a case of recovering from the defeat. If the guys aren't hurting after last weekend, then they don't stand a chance on Saturday, but we've spoken about it and they're all relishing the game against West now."

Also in Premier Two this weekend, Haddington welcome Jed to Neilson Park in a preview of their forthcoming cup tie next month and, with both sides now content to battle for fourth place in the league, focus will no doubt be on preparing for the quarter-final contest.

Meanwhile, mid-table Kelso will have to work hard to fend off a challenge from Cartha, who are still fighting relegation having not won a league game since early November.

In the top tier, Hawick will hope to turn the tables on their last encounter with Stirling County which saw the Greens lose by 43 points. But the home advantage, combined with momentum from last weekend's well-fought cup win, should be enough to give the Mansfield Park side the edge. Currently third in Premier One, Melrose still have second place in their sights, although Watsonians have a game in hand. But this weekend's trip to Currie will provide an opportunity, albeit a tough one, for the Borderers to jump a place.

Division Three favourites Gala still have neighbours Peebles hot on their heels and, with games away to Irvine and Murrayfield Wanderers respectively and only one point separating, the title hangs in the balance.

Cup quarter-final draw: Haddington v Jed Forrest; Hawick v Melrose. Shield quarter-final draw: Hawick YM v Ellon or Kirkcaldy.
