AN EARLSTON darts player will step up to the oche this weekend, aiming to win a chance to play in front of a capacity crowd at the world famous Lakeside venue.
Gary Gilfillan, who plays for the Black Bull Inn, will join 13 of Scotland's top players battling it out in the John Smith's People's Darts Scottish regional final which is taking place in Durham on Sunday.

Joining the regional qualifiers at the Coundon Working Men's Club will be former BDO world champion Martin "Wolfie" Adams, who will be supporting Scotland's best darting talent in the groundbreaking inaugural tournament.

Adams, who beat Phil Nixon in the 2007 BDO final, is one of five expert mentors who will help prepare the eight regional winners for the finals, taking place on the main stage at the Lakeside venue in Surrey.

Adams will take on the winner from the Scottish region as his apprentice in the weeks leading up to the finals which take place ahead of the BDO World Darts Final on January 11, 2009, and will be televised live on the BBC.
