Lauder-based sidecar racers Stephen Kershaw and Robin Wilson were in action at East Fortune last weekend.
Passenger Wilson is still not fully fit after breaking his arm in a crash in May, but intense physiotherapy and massage meant he was much improved since the team's last outing three weeks ago.
A handling problem on Saturday morning qualifying plac
ed them 11th on the grid.
The trouble was traced to the front tyre, which was changed for the race, but with no opportunity to 'scrub in' the new tyre they took the first two laps carefully before starting to work their way through the field.
Although difficulties with back markers slowed their progress a little, they managed to finish in eighth place, 2.5 seconds faster than their qualifying time.
Much encouraged by this result they lined up for race two.
A slow start put them well down the field, but they were soon carving their way through.
After passing their closest rivals for the Scottish F2 (600cc) Championship they worked their way up to third place.
They were challenged by one of the bigger (1,000cc), faster F1 oufits and held them off for a thrilling three or four laps, but the superior acceleration of the larger machine eventually won through, pushing Kershaw and Wilson back to a still superb fourth place which made them first F2 home.
The first race on Sunday saw a similarly exhilarating performance as the Kershaw Racing team steered their way to another fourth place and first F2 home.
The last race of the weekend saw them finish an outstanding third overall and first F2.
Their aggregate results placed them third overall for the meeting and, even better for the morale of the team, their lap times had come down by four seconds in the course of the weekend.
Speaking after the event, Wilson thanked the Physiotherapy Department at Borders General Hospital and sports therapist Gillian McCririck for their care and support.
