Blaikie is new Hawick Royal Albert manager
HAWICK Royal Albert will have a new manager for next season in George Blaikie.
The former Coldstream and Kelso United assistant boss - known as 'Prof' - will have Brian Stavert as his right-hand man.
Current manager Rob Shiel has been offered the post of general manager, but says he's considering his options.
The Albert Park club have finished bottom of the table for the past two seasons and, while this term has been more favourable, Hawick still find themselves languishing deep in the lower half of the league.
Commenting on the changes, Shiel said: "I stepped into the Hawick manager's job when they were in trouble and have tried my best to turn things around. The last two seasons have not been great but there has been an improvement this season.
"I have been asked to take another role in the club for next season now that Prof Blaikie has been brought in as manager but I am weighing up my options."
Out of football since parting company with Kelso United midway through this season, Blaikie, who himself played for Greenlaw and Duns, is delighted about taking the reins at Albert Park.
He said: "It was an offer I couldn't turn down. Hawick haven't done well in past seasons but it is a great set up there and I feel the club is a sleeping giant.
"It's a big challenge for me and I'm not going to give any predictions but I want to take Hawick to a higher level and will be working hard with Brian Stavert to achieve that.
"New players will be brought in. I want local boys in the side but will be bringing in outsiders as well."
The future of Hawick's three current coaches - Malcolm Cooper, Davie Aitkin and Bruce Hughes - has yet to be decided.
