THERE have been no Scottish league games during the last week, but on Saturday, the junior singles play-downs took place at Portobello.
In the ladies section, Tweedbank was represented by Lauren Upton, who played Donna Young from the Midlothian cl
ub in Dalkeith.
In a closely-fought game, both girls had periods in front, but with the score at 15-13, a count of three gave the Midlothian girl sight of victory.
Lauren fought on to 18-16 before a further count of three gave victory to her opponent.
In the afternoon it was the turn of the the club's junior male, Ross Nichol, who faced Kevin McDougall, also representing Midlothian.
The latter took the first end, but Nichol soon pulled it abck to 3-3.
McDougall went ahead 8-3, but Nichol narrowed the gap to 8-6. At this stage the match was reasonably close.
Nichol seemed to be having more trouble with the rink than McDougall, however, and the score climbed to 17-6. Although Nichol did pull the score back to 19-10 it was too little too late and McDougall won by 21-10.
There is a full programme of league matches this week, starting with a visit by West Lothian for the seniors. The men then face Balbardie at the stadium on Saturday, while the ladies travel to Meadowmill in Tranent to meet East Lothian.
At club level, the Scottish singles and triples competitions have been drawn and dates for first-round ties are on the noticeboard. The Scottish Team Championship competitions have also started and need to be finished by the end of November.
Internal leagues are coming to an end and the new KO Cup competitions are due to start.
There are still several teams who have not indicated whether or not they are entering the competition and this should be done using the lists posted on the noticeboards.
