ETTRICK Forest Archers were on target for their monthly club championship qualifying shoot on Sunday.
Shooting a National (four dozen at 60yds and two dozen at 50yds) in almost windless conditions, the archers’ rhythm was impeded by the end-by-end search for arrows, which tended to bury themselves nicely in the grass when they had the nerve to miss t
he target.

Once again, though, the Pearsons were in peerless form – Mike leading the way for the gents with 53 hits and a score of 189, while wife Elaine continued to dominate the ladies’ event with 42 hits and a score of 180, which included five golds – one of them an inner.

Alan Walker had pushed Mike all the way, scoring 254, but with less hits, while Tony Meldrum, Richard Tice and Colin Cairney were also in with a shout.

For the juniors, Connor Janiak was again the archer to beat, with 21 hits and a score of 81.

This Sunday, members turn to the monthly clout qualifiers and will be vying for the best score ahead of the big event, the Selkirk Silver Arrow, on July 12.
