ProScot, one of Scotland’s premier driving schools, has expanded into the Borders and is now offering top-quality driving instruction in and around Hawick, Jedburgh and Kelso.
Jane Sibbald is ProScot’s first driving instructor in the Borders area and is passionate about passing on her driving skills and knowledge to learner drivers of all ages and all levels of ability.
“I’ve always loved driving,” said Jane, who has lived in the Hawick area for more than 10 years.
“My friends and family often mentioned that, as I was calm, patient and a highly-experienced driver, I’d be an excellent driving instructor, but it wasn’t until I was approaching 50 that I decided to give it a go.”
Having been a gardener for more than 25 years, Jane was ready for a new challenge, and signed up with a national driving instructor training establishment, but even with years of driving experience behind her, no matter how much she studied, she kept failing the exam which would enable her to qualify as a driving instructor. “Every time, I was very close to passing – but that actually made matters worse,” said Jane.
She decided to try a different driving instructor training establishment and came across ProScot, the Kirkcaldy-based driving school which has been delivering high-quality ORDIT-Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) training for more than 18 years.
“The first time I spoke to Jane, I was struck by her passion for becoming a driving instructor,” said John Macdonald, director of ProScot and one of the UK’s most experienced and highly-qualified driving instructors. “I could see she had so much potential as a driving instructor. I was confident that, with ProScot’s specialist driving instructor training, she would soon qualify as a driving instructor.” Jane underwent ProScot’s ADI course and, once John was satisfied she was ready, applied to sit the ADI Test – and passed with flying colours!
“In one part of the qualifying process, the driving assessment, Jane had the best pass I’ve ever seen,” said John.
“Not one single driving fault. In the final part of the qualifying process, the instructional assessment, Jane passed – and qualified with the highest grade possible.”
Jane, who conducts her lessons in a bright orange Mini Cooper, added: “As a ProScot-trained driving instructor, I’ve been through the best training possible and it’s so satisfying to see my pupils benefit from this as their driving skills progress until they pass their driving test.”
