Youth unemployment in the Borders has tripled over the last four years, and although it is accepted that this causes a whole range of problems, it would appear that any schemes put forward by our council over this period have not been effective.
As youth employment continues to increase, the identified problems will surely be exacerbated.
I think it’s time to have a fresh look at the situation. Perhaps the forthcoming election may provide the change of personnel in Scottish Borders Council that will give our youngsters the right to a good start in life they deserve.
