Woman found with burns on road in Scottish Borders dies

A woman has died just hours after being found with severe burn injuries on a road in Selkirk in the Scottish Borders.

The 28-year-old was spotted around 7.20am today (Wednesday) in Hillside Terrace close to the entrance to Tait’s Hill.

Police, the local fire crew, and paramedics attended and the woman was taken to the Borders General Hospital at Melrose where her condition was described as critical.

But it was later confirmed by Police Scotland that she had died.

A police spokesman said; “Enquiries into the full circumstances surrounding this matter are ongoing.”

The incident happened opposite the main entrance to Selkirk High School and pupils arriving for lessons were met by the police investigation.

Hillside Terrace is part of the A7 which was closed for several hours.

Forensic experts and the CID have been at the scene.
