STEAK pies from Lauder butcher Shaws Fine Meats have been judged amongst the best in Scotland.

The firm lifted the South East of Scotland championship in the pie competition – organised by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders – and received its award at the Lodge Hotel, Carfraemill,

Other local butchers were also celebrating success following the pie evaluation, which took place in Perth where a panel of expert judges sampled 169 pies from across Scotland and tested them for appearance, flavour and filling.

Shaws also picked up a gold award for its steak and local real ale pie, and there were two golds for Lees Butcher of Yetholm. Silvers went to Allan J. Learmonth of Jedburgh, J. C. Douglas of Selkirk and W. Wylie Butchers of Kelso.
