The USA based global fashion brand Old Navy has chosen two talented students from the School of Textiles and Design at Heriot-Watt University for an all-expenses paid internship at their HQ in San Francisco in June 2016.

The fashion brand approached the School, at the University’s Scottish Borders Campus in Galashiels. In their hunt for a single top student to take part in their prestigious Design Internship Programme.

However they were so bowled over by the creative talent on show when they visited to view the portfolios of 26 shortlisted students that they finally made offers to two students.

Now 20 year old Beth Neilis, from Glasgow and 21 year old Robyn Lang, from Airdrie in North Lanarkshire, both have the opportunity of a lifetime; to work alongside Old Navy’s designers on the brand’s print collection for Spring/Summer 2017.

Justin Newlin Senior Creative Recruiter at Old Navy, said, “The School of Textiles and Design presented a very strong group of students. It was a tough decision and there is a lot of talent there. That’s why we’ve decided to offer two students the chance to come and work with us in San Francisco later this year.”

The Head of School of Textiles and Design, Professor Fiona Waldron, said, “We’re very proud that Old Navy are giving not one but two of our students the chance to join their exclusive internship programme This is quite literally a career and life changing opportunity for them.”

Speaking about her place on the programme Beth said, “I was so happy when I was shortlisted for Old Navy’s internship programme, but to actually be chosen for this amazing opportunity, is incredible!”

Robyn said, “You never believe an amazing thing like this will happen to you. The shock hasn’t settled in yet but I can’t wait and am so excited to have this opportunity.”
