Kelso have won their second Borders Chess League title in three years.

Turning point of the season came in the match at Berwick when the visitors overcame the seasiders by 3½-1½. In their final encounter last week, the Tweedsiders needed just a point at home to Selkirk – but hard-fought wins from Keith Aitchison, John Woodhurst, Martin Keen and Alan Armstrong secured Kelso’s biggest victory of the campaign – 4-1.

Kelso remained unbeaten throughout the season campaign, conceding just one draw at home to Berwick, who finished runners-up, followed by Galashiels and Selkirk.
