Safety in seat belts

A MINIBUS driver told his passengers to put on their seat belts a few minutes before the vehicle skidded and overturned near Fountainhall.

The accident occurred at 11.55pm on Saturday night. One of the 10 passengers, a woman in her 20s, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “Five minutes before the accident, the bus driver told the passengers to put on their seat belts because the road was icy. We believe they all did so, which prevented further injuries. This is a good news story.”

The spokesman advised motorists to prepare for the wintry weather which is due to return tomorrow.

He saied: “Make sure your windscreen wiper blades are in good condition, and try to take a fluorescent jacket, torch and something to eat before you leave for your journey.”
