POLICE are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a Melrose pensioner died while driving near Innerleithen.

Patricia McNay was pronounced dead at the scene. It is thought she became ill behind the wheel and crashed at Pirn Corner on the A72 road last Thursday morning.

Ms McNay, 67, was travelling in a grey Ford Fiesta at 10.20am when the accident happened.

The road was closed for about three hours to north-bound traffic while fire and ambulance services attended, and police carried out an investigation.

A police spokesman said: “We are still trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding Ms McNay’s death and would ask for any members of the public who can help with our investigation to come forward.

“Anyone who was travelling along the A72 and remembers seeing her grey Fiesta on the road and can provide us with further information is asked to contact police immediately.”

Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
