Police appeal for crash witnesses after biker injured

MEDICAL teams have been battling to prevent an injured motorcyclist losing the use of a leg, writes Bob Burgess.

The un-named biker from Edinburgh suffered horrendous leg injuries in a collision with a car near Peebles on Sunday morning.

The 61-year-old was riding towards Peebles on his Triumph Sprint when it was involved in a smash with a north-bound Mazda Three.

It happened just before 10am on the A703 Peebles to Edinburgh Road at Winkstonhill Farm close to Cringletie. The injured man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he has undergone surgery for what police have described as extensive injuries to his lower left leg.

Police investigators have appealed for witnesses.

A spokesman commented: “Enquiries are still ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding this incident which resulted in one man potentially losing the use of his leg.

“Anyone who was on the A703 near Winkstonhill Farm and saw the collision or who has any information that can assist with our investigation is asked to contact us immediately.”

The road was closed for several hours while investigators began their probe.
