SCOTTISH Water is promising to provide Melrose Road residents with details of a five-month scheme along a major section of the Galashiels street.
Households have received no notification that about a mile of Melrose Road and the C77 Langshaw Road will be dug up to provide water for the 500-home development at Easter Langlee, beginning next month.
The quango initially said developer Persimmon Homes was carrying out the work, though Scottish Borders Council said the scheme was registered by Scottish Water.
Scottish Water now admits it is involved in the project.
A spokesperson said: “Design work is underway for a new water main from Scottish Water’s service reservoir to the new housing development at Easter Langlee (Melrose Gait).
“Once dates for the work have been agreed with Scottish Borders Council and Persimmon Homes then we will be able to move forward with the notification of local residents.
“At all times we aim to minimise any inconvenience to local commuters and residents by working closely with the developer, the council and any contractors.”
