Time to quit our union with Europe

Except in a small country, democracy is a sham. One or even 1,000 votes in 350 million are insignificant.

Politicians are inclined to have ambitious projects that cannot be afforded. To advance their schemes they borrow money, thus becoming obligated to financial institutions or big business.

Revolutions are not the answer. They often produce dictators.

For Britain the answer is to come out of the European Union and give more power back to the hereditary element of the House of Lords and to the monarchy.

This would reduce the electorate to a size where government is more accountable to the people, restore the checks and balances on the power of elected representatives (which have been much eroded in recent decades), and re-engage with people who are accustomed to taking a long-term view.
