Local Youth Band, The Shreddies, from Stow, won the Galashiels Academy Talent Competition last week amid fierce competition.

The “Stars in Their Eyes” competition raised £400 for Teenage Cancer Trust. The charity is close to the hearts of the school community as a former pupil died of cancer this year. “Raising money in memory of Tilda Hetrick does give you some sense of control in an uncontrollable situation,” head teacher, Kenny McKay said, “and we hope our contribution will help other young people and their families facing difficult times.”

The local community were extremely generous in their prizes.
