Team effort paid off for my business

I agree with your story published last week, entitled ‘Shop local and support our retailers’.

All our local towns and villages have superb shops and services, but all are faced with challenges at the moment. Business owners everywhere are having to be extra resourceful, using all ideas and opportunities to their maximum to ensure clients and customers know about them. Happy with their products and services, this leads to repeat business which is essential to any company.

I have a hairdressing business and employ three staff. We all love learning and using new skills to constantly improve our services. Courses can be expensive. Recently, I applied for and was approved 50 per cent funding for training from Skills Development Scotland.

My colleague and I travelled to Glasgow and attended a bridal styling course.

Returning home, we were filled with ideas and enthusiasm. We decided to host a bridal hair evening within my premises to showcase our new wedding and formal styles.

To do things properly we needed some bridal items. I contacted L. A. Bridalwear in Galashiels to ask if they would be willing to lend me some hair items. Not only did they agree to my request, but also offered me two beautiful dresses for my models to wear, and a wide selection of tiaras and accessories to use at my event.

I then approached Evergreen Florist in Earlston and asked if I may borrow a bouquet. They very generously offered me three bouquets for use at my event. Finally, I contacted Leader Body and Beauty in Earlston and enquired if it might be possible to have a vintage inspired make-up for my models to complete my display. This was agreed without hesitation.

These companies provided my event with products and services and in return all I offered was to include their brochures and leaflets in our event goodie bags that our audience would receive.

Our event was a great success and we welcomed brides-to-be and their parties all evening. Everyone was very interested in our hairstyles and how they were created.

Perhaps other businesses could team up like this?
