syringes thrown away by drug users near a children’s play area in Kelso have sparked safety warnings.
The issue surfaced at this month’s meeting of the town’s community council, when it was revealed that they had been found in the Woodside Gardens area.
Provost Fiona Scott said the discovery of the syringes had worried community councillors.
She commented: “We are very concerned that they were found where children play. Police advice needs to be followed if people find similar items.”
Police said seven syringes had been found and condemned “irresponsible and unacceptable behaviour by drug users”.
They have warned people not to to touch the syringes but to cover them with something hard to avoid others coming into contact.
Scottish Borders Council, 01835 824000 will arrange for the syringes to be collected or contact the police on 0131 311 3131 or 01573 223434.
