On a balmy sunny evening, Braw Lad Gavin Young and Braw Lass Alice Mackay made the traditional journey on Monday to Lindean Kirk for the laying of the wreath ceremony.
A large crowd gathered to greet the young Galashiels principals, together with their attendants and around 148 riders, who had made their way from Netherdale, crossing the Tweed at Abbotsford.
Thanks to the good weather, the river was deemed safe to cross, to the delight of the riders, and following the crossing, the cavalcade made its way to the kirk via Cauldshiels Loch.
The simple ceremony was led by the Reverend Duncan McCosh, Rector of St Peter’s Church, Galashiels, before Braw Lad Gavin placed the wreath of wild flowers on the Preachers Cross.
Following the ceremony the riders made their way back to Galashiels, via Hollybush, where many took part in the Lindean Chases – races for those who have taken part in the rideout.
The event attracted a good turnout of spectators, before the participants returned to the town for the Riders’ Social at Quins restaurant.
