Snow and ice warning issued for Scottish Borders

An amber severe weather warning for snow has been issued by the Met Office for the wester and northern parts of the Borders.

It came into force at 4pm today (Tuesday) and remains in place until 10am Wednesday.

A yellow be aware warning for snow and ice is also in place across the region until midday tomorrow.

Scottish Borders Council said this afternoon:”Both these warnings identify that persistent snowfall is expected to hit the more westerly parts of the region early this evening and then the whole of the Borders during the night and in the morning.”

The council says gritters have been out in force and will work across the region when required.

The emergency co-ordination centre at Newtown st Boswells will be open at 6am and people are being urged to check local radio for school closures and road problems.
