THE Melrose Music Society is inviting singers to a Come and Sing of Brahms’ magnificent Requiem in Melrose Parish Church this Saturday.
Conductor Marion Dodds, well-known to music-lovers in the Borders, will rehearse with the singers from 2pm until 5.30pm with a mid-afternoon break.
The church will be open from 1pm for registration and collection of music.
The performance, open to the public, will be from 7pm to 9pm on Saturday night.
The choir and two professional soloists will be accompanied by pianists John Bryden of Melrose and Andrew Wendon playing Brahms’ own arrangement for two pianists.
Jessica Leary, soprano, hails from Melrose and is a post-graduate member of the Glasgow Conservatoire Opera School where she has won several prizes. Dom Barbieri, baritone, also a Conservatoire prize-winner, has performed several times in the region.
Singers are asked to donate £12; concessions £10 and those 16 years and under £5.
Audience members are asked to pay an £8 donation for the concert.
