As an environmental enthusiast, I know first hand how important it is that we all play a part in protecting our environment.

I am urging all Scots to sign up to make a “green” difference in Scotland for CSV Action Earth.

This year the focus is biodiversity and I am encouraging the nation to give up their time to clean up local ponds, plant trees or wildflowers, build homes for bats and help to protect endangered wildlife – to name a few examples.

Scottish Natural Heritage is supporting Action Earth by giving out grants worth up to £500. This will allow individuals, groups and organisations in Scotland to improve their local environment. Last year volunteers helped to recycle 1,500 tonnes of cans and paper, saving 25,500 trees or the energy to power 225 million hours of television.

Sign up now to CSV Action Earth 2011 by visiting www.csv.org.uk/actionearth or call 0131 222 9083.
