EVENTS held by staff at the Matalan store in Galashiels have helped the Margaret Kerr Appeal pass the £100,000 milestone – just five months after the campaign was launched to raise £1million for a new palliative care unit at the Borders General Hospital.

Last Tuesday, store manager Sharon Hasson handed over a cheque for £1,948 to James Marjoribanks, chairman of the appeal, and Clare Oliver, fundraising development manager.

Also there was sales assistant Eileen Miller who suggested the appeal was a worthy recipient of several fundraising events, including a fashion show, a pyjama weekend, and cake-and-candy sale and a bikeathon.

“We’re very grateful to all staff and our customers who supported our efforts,” said Eileen.
