POLICE are warning Borders businesses to be cautious after a man phoned up a Kelso firm pretending to be a police officer.
The incident took place last Thursday when the man, who was well spoken with a Scottish accent, phoned up the company claiming he was completing a security survey.
When he was pressured for more details, he ended the call.
A police spokesman said: “Local police have confirmed that we are not involved with any third party organisation regarding security surveys, and we would discourage any business from passing any details regarding their premises over the phone.
“Alternatively, we would encourage any business being contacted by this male to collect as much detail as possible, including a contact telephone number and thereafter contact police.”
Anyone with any information regarding the incident can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 01450 375051.
