Each year, Galashiels and District Rotary Club chooses two S5 students from Gala Academy to send to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camp on the shores of Loch Tay.
Pictured are this year’s winners – Sam Muir (left) and Peter Starrs – who entertained Rotarians with humorous stories about their time away.
During the week, the boys learned about teamwork and different leadership styles. They enjoyed rock climbing, canoeing, high ropes, raft building and gorge walking. All of this came together on the last day, when they took part in the strenuous final challenge.
Before they received their certificates from club president Steven Henderson, Sam and Peter told members that they had very much enjoyed their week, learning new skills and making lasting friendships.
During the next few months, the Galashiels Rotarians will begin selecting students for next year’s RYLA camp.
