THE Salzburg Festival will broadcast live into Hawick next month.

Opera from the highly-regarded festival will come direct from the town of Mozart’s birth to the Heart of Hawick on August 1, 13 and 20.

The Tower Mill Cinema will show three works, starting with a new production of Puccini’s La Boheme on Wednesday August 1 at 6.30pm. It will be followed by Mozart’s The Magic Flute on Monday August 13 August and Don Giovanni on Monday August 20 August

A spokesperson for the venue said: “Tower Mill has been upgrading equipment to improve the presentation of films and broadcasts on the big screen. The enhanced surround sound provides a better all-round cinema experience, and enriched picture quality facilitates a sharper and bigger image.”

It would be like watching the productions in a cinema but with the accoustics of an opera house, she said.

Otherwise Heart of Hawick is showing films including An Angel’s Share, Ice Age: Continental Drift [2D], Moonrise Kingdom, Prometheus [2D], The Amazing Spider Man [2D], The Dark Night Rises and Dr Seuss’ The Lorax [2D].

Tickets for the opera events are £12 and can be bought at the box office on 01450 360688. For further information about the films visit www.heartofhawick.co.uk.
