Jedburgh Rotary club held a ladies’ night which was well attended by members and their partners.
After a Christmas meal, president Ken Fotheringham welcomed guest speaker Ivana Summerton (both pictured), formerly an army bomb disposal specialist.
She reminisced about her army service and, in particular, her experiences in bomb disposal. Even today unexploded second world war bombs are regularly excavated and have to be dealt with, and they remain highly dangerous. Her talk was followed by a light-hearted question-and-answer session. Various raffles and auctions during the course of the evening raised a handsome amount for the club’s charity fund.
On Sunday the club participated in the St John’s carol service and that brought an end to the formal activities for 2010.
The next meeting will be on January 6 at the new time of 6pm.
