A CAKE-BAKING runner from the Peak District is going to tackle a coast-to-coast run along the border to raise money for charity.
Mum-of-two Abigail Phillips will tackle the Reivers’ Cycle Route from Newcastle to Whitehaven, taking in Newcastleton
The 180-mile route she has chosen weaves along the English-Scottish border for much of its way, passing the remains of Reivers’ fortified 15th and 16th century peel towers.
Mrs Phillips, 34, said: “I started running three years ago after our second child. I’d never run for more than a bus before. I enjoy it but it’s just a way of keeping fit and I’m not super fast.”
She hopes to raise more than £2,500 for The Children’s Adventure Farm, which provides holidays and activities for terminally ill, chronically sick, disabled and disadvantaged children in north-west England.
She said: “My family generally think I am completely mad, but I have their full support. I’m hoping people will say hello and smile, that really makes my day. As long as I have my family waiting for me at the end I know I’ll be able to do it”
