IT may have been one of the worst weeks of the year for poor weather, but last week’s regular downpours failed to dampen the spirits of those villagers taking part in this year’s Morebattle Festival Week.

The 2011 Games Queen, Amber Goodall, pictured right, from Cessford, was sashed during a service in the local church on the Sunday preceeding the start of the week-long programme of events.

The various activities included a five-a-side football tournament, coffee morning, quiz, camera club exhibition, pool competition, treasure hunt, pet show and fancy dress competition.

The weather had forced the cancellation of the family day at the school playing field on Sunday, August 7, but other than that all the events managed to take place.

Festival Week committee secretary John Mabon says organisers are pleased with the way things went.

“It was a good week, considering how bad the weather was,” he told TheSouthern this week.

“Apart from the Sunday when the family day was cancelled, the weather wasn’t too bad for the rest of the programme.

“Amber did really well as Games Queen. She attended all the events and presented all the prizes, including the cups and trophies at the Morebattle Border Games on the Saturday.
