Raging over rent threat

As I rent a garage from Waverley Housing, Hawick, I recently received a letter to say that there was an increase in rent.

This was due to the rise in VAT to 20 per cent, Waverley stated.

Fair enough, I thought, as this was a standard and friendly enough letter. But then they had to go and ruin it by printing this at the bottom of the letter in bold writing: “Your rent is due weekly in advance – don’t breach our agreement and risk losing your home – pay on time!”

As a pensioner who is up to date with his payments, by direct debit, I find this disgusting and intimidating. What gives this pistol-wielding housing authority the right to threaten me with losing my house for not keeping up with garage rent payments?

I did not even buy my house from Waverley Housing, but from Scottish Homes.
