St Mary’s School in Melrose hosted the annual inter-school Farr Out Challenge on Saturday when 16 teams from the Borders and Edinburgh took part in an eclectic range of activities from art and drama to netball and wall climbing.
The grand finale in terms of disciplines was the constuction and deployment of an air and water rocket.
With a fair, albeit cold, wind blowing and only the odd spot of rain, the emphasis during the day was very much on teamwork and getting the youngsters to think and act collectively.
The competition, now in its third year and named after a former St Mary’s governor, was fierce but good natured with prizes being awarded to St Boswells, Channelkirk, Melrose and Gordon for individual disciplines.
However, when all the points were tallied, the overall team winner was Longridge Towers from Berwick. Thanks go to all the parents and staff who assisted at the event.
