Prostate support group

THE monthly meeting of the Scottish Borders Prostate Cancer Support Group discussed preparations for the first step in developing a relationship with the Southeast Scotland Cancer Network (SCAN) Urology Group.

The meeting in the BGH Chaplaincy Centre last Wednesday heard that SCAN takes in member groups covering Edinburgh and Lothians, Fife, Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders.

Local members were asked for their opinions on what had happened to them from first seeing their GP who referred them to a consultant through to when they were discharged after treatment; how they were kept informed regarding staying in hospital, receiving information about their treatment, follow-up apointments and clinics, ease of parking at various hospitals and communications in general.

The next meeting will be at the same venue at 7pm on Wednesday, September 7 when all men who have had, or been diagnosed with prostate cancer, will, along with their partners, be made most welcome.
