The girls of St Peter’s Nursery, Galashiels, above, gave a real show of dress sense as the school pulled out all the stops to celebrate the royal wedding on Friday.

They were among hosts of Borderers who celebrated the marriage of the Earl and Countess of Strathearn, as Prince William and Kate Middleton are now formally known in Scotland.

Schools, local communities, care homes and hundreds of friends and neighbours held parties on Friday’s public holiday, with props and costumes ranging from the full wedding kit to union flags to silly hats, as the weather kept kind in the Borders and at Westminster Abbey.
