LOCAL organiser Shirley Pearson is appealing for Souters to help injured servicemen and women by buying a poppy.
Poppy Scotland tins will be in shops, with scouts and cubs collecting in the town’s streets at weekends from the end of this month.
Shirley said: “People are usually very generous when it comes to our armed services, but in the present economic climate everyone is hard-pushed. There are some harrowing tales of the injured coming back – not only physically, but mentally – and Poppy Scotland provides the wherewithal to help them.”
Last year’s collection in Selkirk raised £2,070.
Shirley is also seeking volunteers to help raise money during the rest of the year
“We need to organise coffee mornings and other things that catch people’s eyes,” she added.
